About The Role

Role: Service Manager x 6 (Upper GI/Vascular and Surgery, Digestive Services (Gastro/Endoscopy), Adult Emergency Department/EMSDEC, Cardiology/Respiratory, General Medicine/Palliative Care and Maternity/Labour Ward/EPU.
Contract Length: 3 months in first instance
Location: Hybrid/Harlow - Minimum of 3 days on site out of 5 days
IR35: Inside
Pay Rate to Intermediary: Up to £34.50 per hour



Spinwell is recruiting for a Service Manager for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SERVICE MANAGER

The Service Manager is a key managerial position in the Care Group. The post holder is responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the services, working closely with the Clinical Leads, Matrons and supporting the General Manager and Head of Nursing.

The Service Manager will have a dedicated portfolio of services. The service manager may take a Care Group or Division wide lead for specific projects/service improvements.

The post holder will ensure that effective and efficient structures are in place to ensure that all standards of patient care are met and associated risk and governance matters are managed. The post holder will support the General Manager/Deputy General Manager and Head of Nursing in developing efficient and effective patient centred services, meeting key financial and operational performance targets, and putting in place effective processes for delivering national/ local targets, reviewing the efficiency and effectiveness of services in terms of cost effectiveness and financial flows.

The post holder will deputise for the General Manager. 

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE SERVICE MANAGER

  • Proven general and operational management experience to include the management of a large multi-disciplinary group of staff – part of which to have been in the NHS
  • A proven record of success in managing significant operational / strategic change whilst also developing and maintaining the provision of a high-quality service, within a clinical setting, with multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience of team working and building and maintaining effective working relationships in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Fully developing staff potential through facilitating training, development and education initiatives
  • Demonstrable ability to lead and influence
  • Evidence of sound budgetary management experience
  • Experience in service redesign and project management
  • Experience of working with external organisations (ICB, Primary Care, Local Authority, Community Services, Voluntary Sector)
  • Analytical & judgemental Skills, Communication & Relationship Skills, Physical Skills
  • Quality Focused with an innovative approach and ability to solve complex problems
  • Knowledge of audit, clinical governance mechanisms and CQC standards, legislation and best practice
  • Evidence of a commitment to and delivery of staff and organisational development
  • Knowledge and understanding of clinical and corporate governance and risk management systems and processes
  • Proficiency in the use of ICT applications to support efficient work activity, including the analysis, interpretation and presentation of data
  • Ability to manage priorities in order to meet specific deadlines
  • Ability to type with speed and accuracy to produce reports, create presentations, and manipulate data
  • Ability to hold direct and non-direct reports to account
  • Experience of reporting of service performance
  • Understands the need to deliver short-term priorities, achieve long term goals
  • Ability to deal with confidential issues in a professional and sensitive manner
  • Proven self-confidence and ability to confidently state own position on issues
  • Flexibility – adapts to ensure achievement of objectives within constantly changing situations and environments
  • Self-motivated – possesses high internal work standards, sets stretching yet attainable goals; wants to do things better and to measure progress against targets
  • Strong sense of commitment to openness, honesty and integrity in undertaking the role
