Location: Hybrid/London, Bristol or Manchester (No expectation to attend office)

Spinwell is recruiting for a Data Engineer for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DATA ENGINEER

  • You will support the design, implementation, maintenance and support of numerous complex data flows to connect operational systems and data for analytics and business intelligence (BI) systems.
  • You will enable teams to make better use of analytical data to improve user experience of government services including web analytics data (BigQuery), GOV.UK content data (AWS), content metadata and user feedback (SmartSurvey API).
  • Be leading on the development, support and maintenance of existent pipelines to ensure they meet organisational standards as well as the needs of users.
  • Be providing handson engineering, building and maintaining technical assets (pipelines, CI/CD, data models, observability, runbooks) that unblock ongoing product delivery.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE DATA ENGINEER

  • Experience working in teams that design, develop, test and implement automation and data solutions in complex environments
  • Strong extract, transform, load (ETL) experience and solid programming/database programming knowledge, specifically Python and SQL
  • Experience working with structured and unstructured data in cloud computing environments, such as AWS and GCP, for storage, compute and other applications
  • Experience in effective decision making, weighing up the accumulation of technical debt and tooling to use versus the delivery of data engineering solutions
  • An awareness of the principles of infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform), software development best practices, CI/CD and containerisation
