Spinwell is recruiting for an Engineering Manager for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ENGINEERING MANAGER

  • Requirements - Coordinate and manage Engineering staff, to successfully generate technical requirements, defining technical deliverables/artifacts and updating other documentation for multiple systems, including the considerations to in-service support with associated costs and wider benefit/impact to defence capability.
  • Technical Data - Authorise technical data input and changes to support the management and maturity of engineering documentation, focusing on successful technical outcomes at portfolio level.
  • Legislation/Policy - Working in a highly regulated area, educate others with relevant legislation, regulation, policy, processes, and standards to deliver technical documentation for a system. This includes the essential relation to quality, safety, security, and sustainability, of the system, and the interoperability at portfolio level.
  • Risk - Leads in the development of improved risk management methods to embed safety and environmental priorities in design and ensure compliance. Also empowers people to identify and raise concerns regarding both technical and project risk.
  • Design - Manage the design of a portfolio, system or process that meets the customer requirement within realistic constraints of time, cost, and performance.
  • Stakeholder Management - Own trade-offs with other sub-system teams and specialists, over technical requirements, and design compromises, to maximise successful system implementation and delivery.
  • V&V - Manage the portfolio test, verification, validation, and evaluation process.
  • Support - Oversee the support and modification to an operational system.
  • Assurance - Support a technical assurance activity across multitude technical disciplines.
  • Disposal - Manage and oversee the disposals and decommissioning of complex equipment.
  • Technical Discipline - Sponsor documentation and coach others in relation to your technical area of knowledge.
  • Support, manage and control technical assurance activities.
  • Personal Development - Own your career progression and professionalisation. This includes engaging with your People Coach, maintaining membership and registration level, with a relevant Professional body, updating MyHR Career Development/Development Plan, conducting relevant learning and development in timely fashion, and keeping current with modern engineering technologies

 

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE ENGINEERING MANAGER

  • Hold a Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics based qualification at RQF Level 4; and
  • Experience of providing technical advice at a senior level and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes in multidisciplinary projects; and
  • Wide ranging depth and breadth of technical experience in own specialism with knowledge and application of Systems Engineering approaches; and
  • With a relevant Professional body/institution, be professionally registered as either:
    • Chartered Engineer (CEng); or
    • Chartered Scientist (CSci); or
    • Chartered Environ (CEnv); or
    • Chartered Marine Engineer (CMarEng); or
    • Chartered Marine Technologist (CMarTech); or
    • Chartered Marine Scientist (CMarSci); or# o Chartered IT Professional (CITP); or
    • Chartered Physicist (CPhys); or
    • Chartered Chemist (CChem); or
    • Chartered Master Mariner (CMMar); or
    • Chartered Geographer (CGeog); or
    • Chartered Ergonomist and Human Factors Specialist (CErgHF); or
    • Chartered Psychologist (CPsyschol); or
    • Chartered Statistician (CStat); or
    • Chartered Mathematician (CMath); or
    • Chartered Quality Practitioner (CQP) *
    • If only CQP is held, the employee must also hold an RQF Level 6 Engineering qualification or Engineering Technician (EngTech).
  • Challenge and coach others in understanding how to apply correct technical legislation, regulation,
  • standards, policies, and processes to use and follow during acquisition and support to equipment.
  • Challenge and coach others in understanding how to apply the most effective and efficient ways to process data.
  • Select suitable communication methods and challenge others appropriately if they are not.
  • Resolve potential conflicts between stakeholders.
  • Take appropriate action and lead where needed in responding to issues.
  • Coach others in conducting in-depth analysis on products or process and identify the correct action to rectify issues identified.
  • Make timely decisions related to accuracy and efficiency of your own and others’ work.
  • Effectively establish priorities and work sequencing; and challenge behaviours that are incompatible with the Civil Service Core Values.
  • Ensure risk management is conducted correctly and challenge those not making timely decisions that affect regulatory requirements, including where and when to safely quarantine equipment/products.
  • Plan and manage your own time and those reporting to you, to deliver at pace.
  • Carry out the correct action for coaching and supervision required for junior and/or equivalent graded staff that you may work with.
  • Identify your own shortfalls in knowledge and discuss appropriate options for self-development, setting short and medium priorities.
  • Coach others to find the most appropriate internal policy and processes.
