Spinwell is recruiting for a Safety Engineer for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SAFETY ENGINEER
- Requirements – Support the generation of technical safety requirements and documentation for subsystems, including the considerations to in-service support and associated costs.
- Technical Data – Identify, collate, and evaluate technical safety data to support the management and maturity of project documentation, focusing on successful technical outcomes.
- Legislation/Policy – Working in a highly regulated area, differentiate and comply with relevant safety legislation, regulation, policy, processes, and standards to deliver technical documentation for a subsystem. This includes the essential relation to quality, safety, security, and sustainability, of the subsystem, and the interoperability with other sub-systems.
- Risk – Contributes to technical risk management activities at project / programme level.
- Design – Support the generation, update and review of all safety artifacts and safety cases related to an equipment type.
- Stakeholder Management – Collaborate with other sub-system teams and specialists, over technical safety requirements.
- V&V – Support in the system’s safety: test, verification, validation, and evaluation process.
- Support – Assist in the safety decisions in through-life support and modification to an operational subsystem.
- Assurance – Support technical assurance activities within the limit of your technical discipline.
- Disposal – Support disposals and decommissioning of basic equipment.
- Technical Discipline – Draft recommendations in relation to your technical area of knowledge.
- Personal Development - Own your career progression and professionalisation. This includes engaging with your People Coach, pursuing membership and registration level, with a relevant Professional body, updating MyHR Career Development/Development Plan, conducting relevant learning and development in timely fashion, and keeping current with modern engineering technologies.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE SAFETY ENGINEER
- Hold a Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics based qualification at RQF Level 3; and
- Have some experience of providing technical advice and delivery of successful engineering outcomes; and
- With a relevant Professional body/institution related to your discipline, be working towards a professional registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) or Registered Science Technician (RSciTech).
- Determine correct technical legislation, regulation, standards, policies, and processes to use and follow during acquisition and support to equipment.
- Determine the most effective and efficient ways to process data.
- Select suitable communication methods.
- Resolve potential conflicts between stakeholders.
- Take appropriate action in reacting and responding to routine issues (such as reporting safety incidents, suggesting efficiency benefits).
- Conduct analysis on products or process and identify the correct action to rectify issues identified.
- Recommend timely decisions related to accuracy and efficiency of your own work and others, and the ability to establish priorities and work sequencing.
- Escalate risks at the appropriate time to meet all regulatory requirements, including where and when to safely quarantine equipment/products.
- Plan and manage your own time, to deliver at pace.
- Decide and implement the correct action for coaching and supervision required for junior and/or equivalent graded staff that you may work with.
- Identify your own shortfalls in knowledge and discuss appropriate options for self-development, setting short and medium priorities.
