Pay Rate to Intermediary: £20.54 per hour
Security Clearance: BPSS


Spinwell is recruiting for a Carpenter for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CARPENTER

  • To carry out tasks, directed by Team Leader, observing and complying with the requirements laid down in quality procedures, relevant publications, technical drawings and complies with all statutory requirements such as COSHH.
  • Interpret engineer drawings and verbal instruction to produce what is required to meet customer requirements.
  • Ensure the correct cut and machine authorised materials are used i.e. environmentally certified timber, board and packing material.
  • Ensure the correct machines and tools are used to produce the required items.
  • Apply protective finishes by hand including stencilling, graphics and authorisation markings as required.
  • Identify any design problems, product or material deficiency and report immediately and keep management informed and updated of work in progress.
  • Assist in the design of prototype Specific to Contents (STC’s) and manufacture new items and find remedies for faults in existing items.
  • Manufacture items from cushioning (chip foam and polyethylene and the like) to the required specification and instruction.
  • Supervise jobs when working with semi-skilled and skilled personnel from within the Carpenters shop and hold responsibility of quality of work and the completion of appropriate and accountable documentation.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE CARPENTER

  • Wooden Packaging company experience would be advantageous
  • Experience from someone within construction (carpenter)
  • Shop fitting experience would be suitable
  • Ability to read drawings/designs
  • Pallet making company background would be suitable – would have had to be involved in making the containers not just people who have put them together
  • Use of hand tools & battery operated
  • FLT license – advantageous but not essential
  • IT literate including Microsoft Office
  • Advanced City and Guilds in Carpentry and Joinery or equivalent time served experience
